Democrat And Republican Debate About Christie Scandal

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Democratic political consultant Eleanor Dezzi and Kevin Kelly, from the Republican State Committee, talked to Good Day and gave their opinions on the scandal that's engulfing the Christie administration.

Newly released e-mails show the enormous backup on the George Washington Bridge this past September was apparently orchestrated by one of Christie's top aides. The messages show an exchange between Port Authority official David Wildstein and the Governor's Chief Of Staff, Bridget Kelly.

The traffic jam was apparently meant to make life difficult for the mayor of Fort Lee who would not endorse Christie for re-election.

Fort Lee's mayor and Democrats are outraged. Wildstein is expected to testify in Trenton today in front of a legislative committee that is investigating the matter.

Governor Christie denies any involvement and issued this statement.

"What I've seen today for the first time is unacceptable. I am outraged and deeply saddened to learn that not only was I misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge," he said.

For Democrat Dezzi, there is definitely blood in the water.

"The sad thing about this is they didn't have to do it. Everyone knew that Christie was going to be re-elected," she said. "Now the flood gates have opened…everyone is getting involved in this."

Kelly agreed that Christie probably knew about the situation, but he emphasized that's it's laughable that everyone is getting involved.

"What about a President and Secretary of State that send people to war, men and women better than them, based on purely political motivations," he said. "The fake outrage from Democratic talking heads is laughable."

Dezzi responded that this scandal is an indicator of whether Christie can play on a bigger stage. Will he be able to control his office?
