School’s Fire Drill Fail

Posted: Updated:
Tenafly, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Tenafly Middle School is in the middle of a cold controversy after a faculty member accidentally set off the fire alarm sending about 800 students out into the frigid temperatures.

The students were forced to stand outside for about 15-minutes before walking to the nearby high school for shelter. About 100 of the students were in gym class at the time of the evacuation and were standing outside in nothing more than shorts and a short-sleeve shirt.

An outraged father, Gil Aboodi, wrote an email to the school’s superintendent who admitted to knowing that the fire alarm was accidentally set off by a faculty member, but said that state law requires them to follow through with the fire policy.

“It doesn’t seem like they understand that they made a mistake, and I think it’s important to understand that sometimes you have to use judgment,” Aboodi argued.

Aboodi’s son ended up coming home from school with a 101 fever and had to go to the doctor because he wasn’t able to get rid of the chills.

The National Weather Service reported that temperatures in our area yesterday, with the wind chill, were about 17 below.

For many, the conflict between Israel and Palestine hits close to home. Yesterday a rally took place outside of the United Nations building in New York City and people from both sides were on hand to voice their concerns about the ongoing airstrikes. New Jersey’s Rabbi Gross discussed the fact that many of his former students, after graduation, decided to join the Israeli Defense Force and are now immersed in the fighting.
