Mother faces jail time for allegedly cursing in front of students

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -

A Clayton County parent faces up to one year in jail for allegedly using profanity in front of students at a school.

Rosemary Wright is outraged. She says a school administrator at McGarrah Elementary called the police on her and she now faces a disorderly conduct charge for allegedly cursing about the dismissal of Candace, her then-10-year-old daughter.

Wright points to the school's surveillance video, which shows her walk into the school at 2:22 p.m. -- 7 minutes after the school's dismissal time. Wright said that she signed her daughter out and then the assistant principal called her over.

"She felt that I had come into the school for an early dismissal for Candace," said Wright. "She's basically telling me about early checkout. She's not stating what the procedure is after 2:20 p.m."

According to a Clayton County school incident report, the assistant principal called police. She told the officer that Wright did not follow proper procedure for dismissal and used profane language in front of her daughter and other students.

At a magistrate court hearing, a judge issued a misdemeanor arrest warrant for Wright for obscene language. But the mom of three says the educators concocted the story and are trying to railroad her.

" I don't know why she's saying that I used profanity. No staff member in the office heard me say, ‘This is [expletive]," said Wright. "I don't expect educators to commit fraud in order to have a parent prosecuted."

A hearing on the matter is set for next week, while Wright's trial is next month.
