Some people make a trip to Walgreens at night. The trip should have taken just a few minutes but it ended up taking much longer after an employee allegedly locked them in the store.

Last Night at nine o'clock Bernice Berhorst of Mesa says she went with her six year-old daughter to the Walgreens at Guadalupe and McClintock in Tempe to buy a couple of chocolate bars and a bottle of water. She says they didn't get out until midnight.

"As we were looking there we noticed the Christmas stuff was 75% off and rolls of Christmas paper were thirty cents to I went wow that's perfect so I bought fifty rolls" said Bernice Berhorst of Mesa.

But Bernice says the man working the cash register struggled at the checkout counter.

"He started ringing up everything and as he was doing it he lost count so he had to redo it again and voided out the transaction" said Bernice.

Bernice says he tried a couple more times but couldn't ring her up. She described what happened next. "He said I am voiding out the transaction again. I said no I cannot wait anymore, this is ridiculous and this is really horrible. I turned around and said to my daughter this guy is an idiot and I turned around and the guy said you are a stupid inferior woman."

Bernice says she took out her phone to call another daughter at home but the man thought she was taking his picture and flew into rage.

"He says you want to see what kind of control you have no idea, you are not leaving the store and he locked the doors and everybody is panicking now" said Bernice

Bernice says another Walgreens employee told her to call 911. Walgreens sent us this statement, "The employee involved in the incident is no longer employed by our company. Any behavior described by those who were present is completely unacceptable, and we have apologized to the customers who were there".

Tempe Police are investigating the incident, no charges have been filed.
