NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

How a Tennessee family dealt with the grief over their 12-year-old daughter's death lead to an outpouring of support from around the world.

Taylor Scout Smith died from pneumonia.  Along with her parents, she left behind an older brother.

They went through boxes in her bedroom. Among her personal items were letters she'd written to people but hadn't given them out yet.

One of those letters was to an older Taylor. It was dated to her 22-year-old self.

The letter starts, "Dear Taylor, how's life? Life is pretty simple 10 years in your past, I know I'm late for you, but I'm writing this early, so congratulations on graduating high school."

The letter ends, "Well, I think that's all, but remember it's been 10 years since I wrote this. Stuff has happened good and bad, that's just how life works and you have to go with it."

Her parents decided to post pictures of the letter on Facebook.

Tim Smith wrote: "The hope that Taylor shared in the letter is what she would've wanted to share with the world. So, as her father, I feel it's the least I can do to honor her by sharing her letter with the world so that hopefully the love of God and the hope found in Jesus, the same hope that she found, will be extended to you."

The photos have gone viral with people offering emotional and financial support to the family.
