An international mix-up leaves a family wanting answers.
Just before her mother's wake, a Rhode Island woman discovered the person in the casket was not her mother.
Fox affiliate WPRI reports that the woman died unexpectedly while vacationing in St. Maarten during last Thanksgiving.
Now, her daughter, Lisa Kondvar, believes a hospital or St. Maarten funeral home mixed up her mother's body with a woman from Canada.
What's worse, authorities said Kondvar's mother's body was likely cremated, and the death certificate issued in the French-Caribbean island listed her as a man.
U-S Senator Jack Reed, of Rhode Island, and other state officials said they are working to help the family get answers.
Authorities said a D-N-A test will help determine if their loved one was actually cremated.
The family said it has hired a detective and is looking for an international attorney.
