Widow asks thieves to return late husband's ashes

MARIETTA, Ga. -

A Marietta woman is pleading for thieves to return the ashes of her late husband.

Lauren Waldrip said thieves smashed in the front door of her home last week while she was at work. They ransacked the living room, stole her flat screen TV, her laptop and  -- the most precious thing of all -- the box containing her husband's ashes.

"When I noticed the urn was gone, I went from withdrawn and sad and depressed instantly to completely furious," Waldrip said.

Waldrip met Brad, the man of her dreams, four years ago. They were married three years and moved into the Marietta home. Last October, tragedy struck when Brad suddenly died at the age of 26.

Lauren kept Brad's ashes in a box on the dining room table her home. She said that the ashes weren't kept in a traditional urn, so the thieves may not have known what it was. She hopes they'll have some heart and return it.

"I know his love isn't in that box, but what I had left of him was," Waldrip said.

The box has Brad's name on it as well as Gwinnett Crematory.
