Red Cross Preps For Super Bowl

Posted: Updated:
Princeton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - The Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium is expected to bring in about 500,000 visitors to the Garden State the week leading up to the big game.

In case of any major disaster, the Red Cross is responsible for making sure that people have clothing, food and shelter, while law enforcement are taking care of any terroristic or criminal activity.

The Red Cross has a disaster operation center in Princeton, New Jersey. This organization is made up of mostly volunteers from across the states who are on call 24/7 and dedicating their time to help those who may be in need.

Red Cross Chief Communications Officer Diane Concannon said that when it comes to disasters during the Super Bowl, the Red Cross is most concerned with massive fires.

“In the New Jersey region we do see a lot of multiple family house fires. Part of our service is temporary lodging, which is putting people in local hotels. With the Super Bowl in town that week we’re concerned that some of the hotels might be at full capacity,” she said.

The Red Cross has more than 320 emergency response vehicles in 49 states. Inside these vehicles they have containers of food and drinks and other essentials needed to help people in the case of an emergency.
