A dive team recovered the body of Lauren Li from the icy Chicago River on Wednesday. Li had been unaccounted for after she fell into the water along with two friends early Monday.
One of the friends, 26-year-old Ken Hoang of St. Paul, Minn., climbed a fence on the riverwalk to reach for his phone after he dropped it onto the frozen river.
Li, 21, of Burnsville, Minn. and another friend, 23-year-old Quoc-Viet Phan Hoang of Vadnais Heights, Minn., were both trying to help Hoang when they fell in.
Hoang was released from the hospital Wednesday and said he's never felt "so helpless." He said one of his friends died in his arms and he watched the other drift away.
An autopsy conducted by the Cook County medical examiner found Ken Hoang drowned, with alcohol toxicity listed as a secondary factor.
