Another Carjacking In Short Hills

Posted: Updated:
Short Hills, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Late Tuesday night, another carjacking took place in Short Hills, New Jersey, this time at a rental townhome complex.

The incident occurred in front of the victim’s own apartment and the assailants made off with his luxury Porsche Cayenne.

Most residents of the complex weren’t aware that a carjacking had taken place in their neighborhood, but did say that there was a lot of police presence Tuesday night in the community.

This is the second carjacking in a month to take place in Short Hills. The first one happened in a parking garage at the Short Hills Mall where a young lawyer, Dustin Friedland, was shot and killed in front of his wife before the thugs made off with their luxury SUV.

Luckily, the victim’s wife, Jamie Friedland, was not hurt during the carjacking and police recently released 911 tapes of Jamie’s call for help. In the tapes you hear her screaming and asking why the ambulance was taking longer than 30 minutes to arrive on the scene.

Apparently, the ceilings in the parking garage were too low for an ambulance to get through which resulted in a delayed response time. Dustin was pronounced dead at the hospital around midnight.

The town of Elmwood Park relies on about 75 to 100 volunteer firefighters for emergencies.  Russell Fenn, IV is one of those volunteer firefighters. He was driving the department’s only ladder truck and crashed it into utility poles.  Police charged Fenn with driving under the influence and said that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
