NEW PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) -

A Pasco County woman was arrested after allegedly leaving her children in the car while she was off hunting wild hogs this morning.

According to deputies, they got a 911 call from a 9-year-old who told them that he and his 8-month-old sister were alone in a car left by the side of the road near Glades Avenue. That's not far from State Road 52 and the Suncoast Parkway.

Deputies reported that the coatless boy was shivering and told them he called 911 because he was cold and "a police car would be warmer." The air temperature at the time was 38 degrees.

It was 40 minutes before Kayla Shavers returned to the car, the arrest report states. She told investigators that she was hunting hogs because they were tearing up the property, although the home address she gave deputies is further south in Moon Lake Estates.

Shavers, 30, faces charges of child neglect.
