Snowball fight draws hundreds to Dupont Circle

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

The first big snowfall of the year shut down schools, businesses and local governments, and at the end of the day, drew hundreds to a snowball fight in Dupont Circle.

The word went out on Facebook that the DC Snow Fight Association was sponsoring a big battle at 6:30 p.m. at the fountain in the middle of the circle.

Organizers had been waiting for just the right snow since back-to-back blizzards buried the nation’s capital in February of 2010. They had a huge snowball fight in Dupont Circle then too.

Why?

Snowball tossers had lots of answers: Something to do. Cooped up indoors too long. D.C. is unaccustomed to snow. Just ‘cause.

They are talking about making it an annual event.
