CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The fun is ending for a local legacy this weekend. Sunday is your last chance to stop by Chicago novelty shop Uncle Fun.

"It's very emotional," Frankel said. "It's been a long, great run and my customers are helping me through."

Uncle Fun has been selling whoopie cushions, chattering teeth and gag gifts in Lakeview for more than three decades. For many, Frankel's store has been the go-to for all things fun, the genesis of some great memories that can be passed on to new generations of kids and kids at heart.

"I think that everybody really likes to have fun. That's what the store brought to Chicago," Frankel said. "Last Saturday was one of the most emotional days. There must have been 1,000 people here. The store was packed. Everybody was having a good time, sharing stories of what happened over the 38 years."

One of his biggest customers was the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. He even took a few silly photo booth shots with Frankel.

The quirky shop at 1338 W. Belmont Ave. is shutting down because owner Ted Frankel is moving to Baltimore with his new husband. Congratulations Ted!

Frankel will have a store in Baltimore called Sideshow, which is located at American Visionary Art Museum. We're welcome to stop by anytime!

Uncle Fun will be open all weekend, with much of the merchandise on sale in order to clear the shelves. The basement will be open to the public for the first time, where Frankel is hosting a treasure hunt for the kids. Stop by and pick up a new memory, as Chicago bids goodbye to a hometown favorite. There will be a big surprise on Sunday!

He told Good Day Chicago that he hopes the name Ted Frankel will be associated with Uncle Fun as Kris Kringle is associated with Macy's.

Frankel said he hopes Chicago will remember him fondly as "an old guy with a twinkle in his eye and maybe a little bit of magic in his soul."

No doubt that's exactly how he and Uncle Fun will be remembered.
