Moving pipelines next step for new Braves stadium

Posted: Updated:

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Atlanta Braves executive Mike Plant says that relocating two pipelines that run through a 57-acre property in Cobb County is the next step in building the team's new stadium there.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that Colonial Pipeline has one line spanning from New England to Louisiana that runs through the middle of the property. Atlanta Gas has another.

Officials said it will take several months to relocate the pipelines to the edge of the property.

The Braves on Friday closed on land for the stadium and expect to soon name the ballpark's designer and architect. They hope to open the stadium for the 2017 season.

The project will take the team out of downtown Atlanta for the first time since it moved to Georgia from Milwaukee in 1966.
