FOXe: 'Little Boogaloo' recycling vintage tees into kids clothes

A stay-at-home mom in Berkley started her own green business called 'Little Boogaloo', which recycles vintage, rock T-shirts and turning them into children's clothes.

"It's actually the name that my first-born child was kind of given as a nickname. I used to call her my little boogaloo, and so that's what I decide to name my business because I originally started sewing for her," says Lisa Sanfield.

The Australia native says her business quickly grew online on Facebook and Etsy, and at craft fairs. Some of her first dresses were made from her own vintage tees. Now she gets many from friends and neighbors. The shirts are already licensed by the artists but she creates her own upcycled patterns and designs.

"I add the sleeves and the bottom part of the dress. It's a really simple concept," she says. She says fathers and grandfathers are her biggest customers. She's even had offers to mass produce the dresses, but she says for now she'd rather keep the business small.

Lisa also makes women's scarves using the scraps from the T-shirts. She says she has a hard time keeping the $20 scarves in stock.

The children's clothes range from $35 - $55 and no two outfits are ever alike.

For more information on the outfits or to make a purchase visit Little Boogaloo's Facebook page.
