Conflict Of Interest On Christie's Ethics?

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Hold on to your debate seats New Jersey, a new player is in the spotlight when it comes to the controversy surrounding Chris Christie's current political scandals. While Christie attended an event in East Rutherford confronting the issues of sex trafficking during the Super Bowl, the state approved Christies' choice for the position of Executive Director of the state’s Ethics Commission. Essentially this position has the power rule on the ethics allegations against Christie and his administration.

Susana Espasa Guerrero was confirmed to be the new executive director via the commissions website; leaving little for formal scrutiny as to the reasoning behind her appointment. This appointment however, did not stop people like State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg from voicing her disapproval of Guererro's appointment. Weinberg stated that she was not surprised by her approval and this kind of cronyism is a hallmark of Christie's current administration.

During the first two years of Christie's administration, Guerrero served as Christies legal counsel; potentially creating a conflict of interest on the ethics accusations against the administration. Matt Rooney, an attorney in the state, was poised with the question on the potential of conflict of interest surrounding Guererro's appointment.

"Just because she was in the Governor's office, doesn’t mean it necessarily excludes her from participating from her role on the ethics path," Rooney said. Rooney also raised the notion about the U.S. attorney’s role through this investigation as being an overseer to how the state runs this investigation.

"That’s why ideally you have someone like the U.S attorney who’s working on the federal level, who isn't involved with both camp, who can step in with his investigation and trump what everyone else is doing. Let’s let Fisherman do his job and we’re going to find out what was going on there and I guarantee you if he can get a fish, he’s going to reel them in," Rooney concluded.

Last week President Obama signed into law the Sean David Goldman Act which authorizes the State Department to take forceful measures against a country that doesn't help to return an American child held there. Oftentimes, these cases of international child abduction occur when parents are divorced and one parent is holding a child or children from the other parent in a different country. Sadly, that is the case for Plainsboro woman Bindu Philips.

Leisure Village is a quiet adult community in Lakewood, New Jersey. It's the last place that you would expect to see a swastika carved in front of someone's home, but sadly Fred Blumberg and his partner said that is exactly what happened to them. Blumberg explained that as an older gay couple they've dealt with harassment for years.
