MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Patients at an assisted living facility in Merritt Island may have been abandoned by their caretakers, according to an official with Brevard County Fire Rescue.

Around 1 p.m. Thursday, firefighters said they responded to a call about a patient falling out of a bed at Yan Yan Healthcare Inc., located at 585 Allen Drive.  When they arrived, they said they were unable to locate a staff member, so they notified the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Almost an hour after firefighters responded to the call, they said the owner of the facility arrived at the scene.

Firefighters say there is a total of three patients at this small facility.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
