10 Players With Local Ties Going Under Super Bowl Lights

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

It won't be hard to figure out who the staff and students at one South Jersey high school will be rooting for Sunday.

It might be Carl Lewis Stadium where the games are played at Willingboro High School, but it's Shaun Phillips Field they play on.

The Denver Broncos defensive end grew up in Philadelphia but moved to Willingboro in eighth grade and started to make a name for himself.

If you're keeping score, Phillips is still a legend in this Burlington County community.

Another Bronco playing under the Super Bowl lights is Steven Johnson.

The linebacker doesn't get anywhere near the attention that quarterback Peyton Manning gets except maybe in his hometown of Media, Pa.

Eagles fans may remember Johnson from earlier this year. He was the player that blocked the punt, and scored this touchdown, his first since high school at Strath Haven in Wallingford, Delaware County.

Learn more details on both players in the video reports above!

As for other players with local ties…

  • Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno is from Belford, N.J., and played at Middletown H.S. South;
  • Seahawks defensive tackle Jordan Hill is from Harrisburg and played at Penn State University;
  • Michael Robinson of Seattle also played at Penn State;
  • Denver has two starters from area colleges, defensive tackle Terrance "Pot Roast" Knighton (Temple) and safety Mike Adams (Delaware);
  • And the Broncos have two players (corner back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and offensive tackle Winston Justice) who used to be Philadelphia Eagles, while Seattle has one alum of the Birds (defensive end Chris Clemons).
