Caught on Camera: Prowler Found Sleeping in Woman’s Backyard

Neighbors in Helmet, California say they are fed-up with crime in their community. So now they say they are sticking together to send a message to the bad guys: Don't mess with us. One prowler found out the hard way. First he was caught on camera sleeping in one woman's yard. Then the next day, he was confronted by the same woman. The whole thing was caught on tape.

Karleee Meyer says she was shocked to see the guy passed out in one of her chairs. So when he came back the next day she was ready for him.

Her home surveillance camera recorded her confrontation with the man. In the first video, you can see him running across her front yard then he goes to the backyard. He then sits down in a chair and passes out.

The same man went back to her house the next day. That's when Meyer grabbed her homemade weapon.

"I thought at least it would scare him. Even if it's not really balanced, as far as the swing. A bat would probably have been better," Meyer said. "He jumped into his car right here, and I jumped right there with him, right on top of him, and we wrestled till I got the keys."

Police were called. The man was questioned, but at this point no word on charges, if any.

Meyer says her neighbors are becoming more aggressive and putting their foot down.

"Everybody's talking and confronting people and that's what's it's going to take. We have to work together in our immediate area to stop the crime," Meyer said.
