19-year-old killed after fight in Phoenix street

PHOENIX -

Police have released the name of a 19-year-old man who died after two groups of people fought  Wednesday morning near 28th Drive and Cactus.

Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes says they don't believe any weapons were used in the fight. All of the victim's injuries are apparently from bodily force, but they still need an autopsy to figure out exactly how the man died.

Holmes says two groups of people from two different complexes somehow got together and had an argument in the middle of the street. The argument escalated to a fight and the 19-year-old was badly injured.

The fight reportedly broke up and the injured man's friends took him back into their apartment complex. They eventually called firefighters because they saw the man needed extra help.

The 19-year-old, identified as Edgar Box, was then taken to a hospital where he died.

Neighbor Fred McAllister says he heard the fight and also heard gunshots, however, he never went outside to check out what was happening.

The suspect or suspects in this homicide are still on the loose.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
