DETROIT (WJBK) -- Street flooding caused by an apparent water main break on Detroit's east side left several vehicles stuck in water and ice, prompting a rescue using construction equipment.

The break was reported around 5 a.m. Friday in the area of Gratiot Avenue and Conner Street. Temperatures at the time were around zero degrees with wind chill readings near 20 degrees below zero.

Firefighters responded to help free motorists from the waters. Crews used a front-end loader to carry at least three stranded motorists. They also worked to clear ice and water from the area, which is closed to traffic.

FOX 2's Roop Raj says the roadway could be shut for days for repairs.

No injuries were reported.
