A Navy Mom Surprises Her Child During A Hero Assembly

Posted: Updated:

All week, students at Campus Park Elementary in Livingston have been learning about heroes.

"I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free," said a student.

One special girl is about to come face to face with her hero.

"I thought it would be nice to surprise her," Deborah Davadi said.

Deborah Davadi hasn't seen her daughter, Veronica, since  last May.She's been serving with the Navy in Afghanistan as a hospital corpsman.

"I was there for 6 and  half months .[I'm] Happy to be back in the state," states Davadi.

And even happier to surprise her daughter.

The classroom teacher talked to Veronica as her mom was getting ready to come in.

"Do you have a parent that's in the military?" The teacher asked.

"My mom," Veronica answered.

"Do you know when Debbie is coming back home to see you? Are you ready to see your mom?" The teacher questioned.

"I wish my mom was here," said Veronica.

"Well I think today wishes come true a lot faster than we thought. I think there is someone here you'd like to see," said the teacher.

After the first hug, veronica wouldn't let go of her hero.

And for the first time in nearly a year, this little girl is right where she belongs... In the arms of her mom.
