ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Orlando attorney Juan Lynum wants to add "city commissioner" to his resume. Lynum told us he will run for the seat presently held by his mother, Daisy Lynum.
Lynum says his mother, who has represented Orlando's District Five for 16 years, will withdraw from the race this Monday.
"I am running, because I want to continue Commissioner Lynum's legacy of leadership," he says.
Lynum says his mother broke the news to her campaign staff Friday in an emotional meeting. He says she is resting this weekend.
Mrs. Lynum recently told reporters she would run for the seat again. Juan Lynum filed to run on Friday, the last day to qualify. I asked him if his mother filed for re-election to scare off other candidates so he could run.
"I could see how folks could perceive that, but any one of my 600 Facebook friends knew almost four weeks ago that I announced I would be running for judge."
Lynum says, if elected, he will fight for more technology in District Five schools and more high-tech jobs in the district. He will also work to reduce crime.
"We plan on doing a better job with community policing as well as neighborhood watch programs."
