DC region cleans up after winter snow storm

Posted: Updated:

It's time to clean up the mess!

Snow-blowers and shovels are sure to be out in full force Friday after round two of snow Thursday night.

Road crews are warning motorists to drive cautiously and to beware of slippery conditions. Road crews hope to continue their work on area side streets.
It is a snow day once again for school kids in the D.C. Region as most major systems are closed Friday.

The federal government will be open Friday -- on a two hour delay. Federal workers do have the option for unscheduled leave or to telework.

There were several deaths during the winter storm. A VDOT worker was killed in Loudoun County when another worker ran into the back of his truck as he was making adjustments to it on the side of the road.

Two men in Howard County collapsed and died while shoveling snow on Thursday. A third man from Columbia also collapsed and died while outside but it's unclear if he was shoveling snow.

In the District, the body of a man was found covered with snow on Shannon Street, southeast in the afternoon. Medical examiners have not yet determined the cause of death in these cases.

Metro bus is back in business. Metro resumed bus service after suspending it Thursday night following the second-round of snow - but only for busses running on major roadways. Metro-access service is expected to be restored starting at noon. Trains will run on a regular schedule.

Conditions at the airports will likely start off a little rough Friday morning but should improve throughout the day. Several hundred flights were cancelled at Reagan National, Dulles and BWI.

DENVER - Technically, it's still summer for a few more days but it's snowing already in Colorado! The Denver area saw a dusting Wednesday and could get a bit more snow as a cold front moves through. Fortunately for residents there, this is just temporary and they'll enjoying 70 degree days again soon.
