A deputy with the Orange County Sheriff's Office shot and killed a man in Avalon Park Sunday afternoon. Detectives with OCSO told FOX 35, it all unfolded at noon when they received a 9-1-1 call saying that the 47-year-old man was threatening to kill himself and his family.
Deputies went to the home at 15126 Perdido Street and found the man, who they said had taken 20 Xanax held up in a home running around with a shotgun. Detectives said the man's wife and two adult children were in the home "scared for their lives" when this all was happening.
They said a family friend was also in the midst of the threat. Everyone was apparently hiding in the closet.
Orange County deputies had an hour long standoff with the man, who's not being named at this time, and at 1:46 p.m., they said he came outside with a loaded shotgun.
A deputy saw him, they tried to talk him down, but eventually the deputy fired one round and killed him. Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
