SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) -

The South Daytona Police Department is investigating an accidental shooting involving two 13-year-old boys who were home alone.

Police say they were called to the Halifax Medical Center emergency room on Saturday night in regards to a 13-year-old boy being shot in the arm.

The victim told police he was at a friend's house on Lemon Road in South Daytona, when his friend went to his bedroom and grabbed a loaded .22 rifle from the gun rack.

Police say as he was showing the victim the gun, it went off and struck the other boy in the right elbow.

The boys did not call 911, but did call their parents, who police said were at a race track, telling them it was a BB gun that went off.

One boy's younger brother was home at the time, but was not injured.

The victim was later moved to Arnold Palmer Hospital for surgery. He's expected to be OK.

Police are still investigating.
