Paralyzed cat and Dachshund become unlikely friends

LAKE MARY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Ruth the cat can't stand on all fours but she's got another four legged friend to lean on.

Her owner says she was born with a rare condition that has stumped many veterinarians but she can still get around on her own.

Here is where the love story comes in: Idgie the Dachshund found an unlikely companion in the paralyzed cat.

"Ruth and Idgie were both abandoned at the end of someone's driveway in Geneva and that's quite unfortunate," Jackie Brown, owner of Hollywood Houndz in Lake Mary and volunteer at Project Paws.

Brown adopted both cat and dog and now their story is garnering national attention.

THe"puppy love" friendship will be featured on PBS and the National Geographic.

Brown says she hopes more people adopt special needs animals because the reward is priceless.

"For a special needs dog or cat certainly they have the ability to give a lot of love and they require a lot of love too and attention," said Brown.
