A neighborhood located near the happiest place on earth is being targeted by thieves. Osceola County Sheriff's deputies are warning Celebration residents about burglaries in the area. They say the suspects pretend to be delivery people.
"They did it while I was home, right across the street, and they could see that too," says Marie Gimbrone.
Gimbrone says a house across the street in Celebration, was recently burglarized while she was home. According to deputies, the suspects pretend to be delivering a package.
"The delivery man will knock on your door and if you don't answer they'll check your door to see if it's open, they'll go around the back, check around the back. I heard of some people's windows being punched in while they're unlocking the door."
A total of 7 homes have been hit this year. On Wednesday a house on East Park Street was burglarized. Deputies say in that case, the suspect was caught on surveillance video. You can see him walking across the street holding a bag.
"They'll go in and apparently they're going after jewelry, electronics, they're not going after anything big. It's small things which is even more frightening which means that they're ready to go in and out. "
And deputies recommend residents remove items like bicycles from their front yards so it doesn't tempt the burglar.
"It's pretty scary, Celebration is supposed to be the ideal community and we don't hear about things like that too often," says resident Larry Spalla.
Marie has been trying to alert all her neighbors in Celebration.
"When the detective came to my house she basically said, it's going on a lot we want to make sure everyone's aware."
People should call the Osceola County Sheriff's office if they see anything suspicious.
"The police have been patrolling here more and more lately and they're very, very aware. But right now, so hopefully they'll catch them."
The suspect on East Park Drive is either white or Hispanic, around 30 to 40 years old with a heavy build. He was seen leaving in a dark colored Dodge minivan driven by an accomplice.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Osceola County Sheriff's Office at 407-348-2222 or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
