The Cast Of 'About A Boy': Crying With Your Comedy

Posted: Updated:

Minnie Driver says she has "no interest in anything with an even keel," which means the character she plays in the new sitcom, "About A Boy."

That character's name is Fiona and the show based on the same Nick Hornby novel that spawned a 2002 movie with Hugh Grant.

"She's a fragile character," Minnie told the NY Daily Newsr, and the fragility threatens to envelop her 11-year-old son Marcus (Benjamin Stockham).  She has drawn him into her own tightly controlled world, which only starts with veganism.

The story begins when she and Marcus move next door to Will Freeman (David Walton), a cheerfully oblivious layabout who loves burgers and fun, and develops a bond with Marcus.

Minnie says she likes the show because it doesn't always go where you think it will.  "It's not just the oversexed man-child and the neurotic vegan," she says, nor is it just a question of how soon Will and Fiona will get together.

Minnie Driver, Benjamin Stockham and David Walton join Steve Edwards and LIsa Breckenridge on Good Day L.A.

‘About A Boy' premieres Saturday after the Olympics on NBC.

Born and raised in Liverpool, signed by an inexperienced agent named Brian Epstein, hustled into the studio with a genius producer named George Martin...and out of that session came a hit song called "Do You Want To Know A Secret." Now here's the twist…we're not talking about The Beatles.
