Arrest made in November 2013 murder of West Melbourne man
WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Authorities have made an arrest in the November 2013 murder of a West Melbourne man.
Michael Maxwell, 20, of Palm Bay, has been charged with first degree premeditated murder with a firearm in connection with the death of James Thomas Wynn. Wynn was killed during the early morning hours of November 24 at a home in the 1000 block of Hollister Drive in West Melbourne
Maxwell is already in the Brevard County Jail on charges for violating bond release conditions on another case. He was taken into custody on November 27, 2013 and has been incarcerated ever since.
"West Melbourne detectives have been working closely with the Office of the State Attorney, and will continue to do so," said Lt. Richard Cordeau with the West Melbourne Police Department. "We do believe that they knew each other and that it was not a random act, but specifically about that relationship, we are not discussing that right now."
During a separate crime in May of 2013, Maxwell was allegedly beaten by residents of a Palm Bay home during a robbery attempt. Maxwell was arrested and initially held without bond, but a month later, he was released from jail after he successfully argued for a reduction of his bond to $30,000. Police said the accused shooter was on probation, when he fatally shot Wynn four months later.
