Rios Reflects On Pacquiao, Calls Out Provodnikov

Posted: Updated:

Brandon Rios sat down with FOX 11's James Koh and reflected back on his recent loss to Manny Pacquiao while also calling out Russian slugger, Ruslan Provodnikov.

Rios (31-2-1) said he could only stomach re-watching two rounds of his fight versus Pacquiao before turning it off, saying his biggest regret was that he was not himself in the fight.

"I tried to box, I tried to use my reach, that's not my style," Rios said.  "It was working in the gym but I tried that and it's not my style.  I would have done like I've been doing to all my opponents, brawl it out."

Despite the regrets, Rios gave all respect to the Philipino superstar.

"He threw punches from different angles," Rios said.  "His speed was like, one minute he's right there, the next minute he's on this side."

"What got me was his southpaw (style), his awkwardness and his speed," Rios said.  "Halfway through the first round I just got confused.  And once you lose in your mind, you lose the fight."

But almost immediately following the loss, Rios had in mind who he wanted next.  Ruslan Provodnikov.  The man who just beat Rios' longtime rival Mike Alvarado.

Provodnikov (23-2) and Rios have engaged in an online war of words across multiple platforms and Rios said he is tired of all the posturing.

"Ruslan Provodnikov, you and your manager are on Twitter, Instagram, what are we doing?" Rios said.  "We're just talking.  Let's fight."

"His big concern is, can I make 140?" Rios said.  "If I challenge you over the internet at 140, that means I can make 140.  The only reason I went up to 147 was to fight Pacquiao.  Before I couldn't make 135, yes, but now I can make 140," Rios said.
