A teen from central Minnesota who has been battling leukemia wants nothing more than a chance to meet her favorite artist: Miley Cyrus -- and her sister is starting a Facebook campaign to try and make it happen.
Alexis Martinez has an immune system that has been slammed by her cancer, which could make it dangerous for her to go to the Xcel Energy Center when Miley Cyrus comes to town for her concert in a couple of weeks.
"I just love her. I don't care what anybody says. She's a positive impact on people -- just shows everyone that it's OK to be yourself," she said.
Now, the community of Royalton, Minn., is coming together in the hopes that the singer will show some love to the high school senior nicknamed Lulu.
Martinez was diagnosed when she was just 9 years old. After three years of chemotherapy, she was cancer free -- until earlier this month when she started feeling run down.
"I didn't want to believe it," she admitted. "Then, when I saw them all crying, I knew it was true."
Since she is once again battling a potentially life-threatening disease and losing her hair, Martinez is worried she won't be able to attend he concert her parents gave her tickets to for her 18th birthday. So, her sister took to Facebook in the hopes that Miley Cyrus may meet Martinez while she's in town. A couple of classmates even made tribute videos that feature the whole school chanting "We love Lulu."
"If this person could take 5 minutes out of their busy schedule to come meet and support our daughter, that would be the best medicine," Natalie Johnson said.
Martinez must undergo more chemotherapy and possibly even a bone marrow transplant, but her mother says the girl is as strong as a wrecking ball and she hopes her daughter will break through.
"A wrecking ball is indestructible. It can go through anything," she said.
So far, Luv for Lulu has nearly 4,000 likes. Martinez's friends and family members have also sent tweets directly to Miley Cyrus, but they haven't heard whether or not the star will stop by.
