Wyoming Donkey Gets Very Special Treatment After Suffering From Frost Bite

Posted: Updated:

A donkey from Sheridan will receive a very special gift from her adoptive family with the help of a local equine hospital.

After Ella the donkey lost her right hind leg from frost bite, she was sent to see Dr. Ted Vlahos. Bella was bought from Minneapolis before she was adopted.

"Her amputation's been done. She's in a temporary prosthetic and she walks around just fine on it. They have to walk on it right after surgery and any human...(you) would not be walking on your stump right after surgery. You'd let it heal before you would be fitted for a prosthetic," said Dr. Vlahos.

Dr. Alex Parkes has also been closely involved with Bella's recovery.

"She's walking really well on the amputated leg. I mean, all of the limbs are fine. She's bright. She's trying to run away from me in the mornings when she sees me come towards her with the medications, which is always a good sign," said Dr. Parkes.

Bella has become a loveable character at Rocky Mountain Equine Hospital. She even has her own website, BellaBurro.com, which asks for donations and support for the young donkey.
