Two years since Trayvon Martin shot and killed in Sanford

SANFORD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Wednesday marks two years since 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in the Twin Lakes neighborhood of Sanford.

Investigators say Martin was unarmed and carried only a bag of skittles and a can of juice at the time of the shooting.

George Zimmerman was eventually arrested and charged with Martin's murder. Months later a jury of six acquitted him of all charges in a very public trial in Seminole County last summer.

Rallies for the arrest of Zimmerman spread across the country bringing the debate of Florida's "Stand your Ground Law" to the forefront of the American agenda.

Martin's parents became advocates for change of "Stand your Ground Law" and continue to fight for their cause.
