Thieves steal equipment and cash from Northwest Area Little League

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Thieves made off with thousands of dollars worth of equipment after striking a storage shed and concession trailer used by the Northwest Area Little League, deputies say.

When deputies arrived at the Rolling Hills Baseball Complex at 4950 N. Pine Hills Rd., they found the trailer vandalized and multiple items stolen, including cooking utensils, electronics, baseball and softball equipment, and cash.

"They took probably eight to ten sets of catcher's gear, all of our girls softballs," says Harry Sowers, Vice President of League.  "It was a punch in the face, when I got the phone call."

The league is volunteer-based. Teams rely on fundraising and local sponsors for equipment and can't afford new gear, but Sowers is hopeful, this underdog league will come back swinging.

"This is not going to stop us," says player Michael Sowers.  "It's only going to make us stronger."

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to please call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
