There is a desperate search underway around Daytona Beach for Bella the German Shepherd mix. The dog ran off while on the way to the veterinarian, just before she was supposed to have staples removed following surgery that was done weeks earlier.
Volunteers spent Wednesday searching high and low for this 4-year-old dog that has been missing since Friday.
"We have volunteers everywhere searching the woods, driving walking, she's been missing since Friday, she's injured , she's limping, she's recovering from surgery," said Eva Ziehl with Daytona Beach German Shepard Rescue.
Bella is a rescue dog that recently had to have surgery after fracturing her tail and pelvis when she was hit by a car last month, she was on her way to get staples removed from her body when she ran.
"She did escape through the woods, and we've been out here ever since 24/7 looking for her, because she is in dire need of her medication," Ziehl added.
Several traps have been set in the area, in hopes of luring the dog.
"We know there are bears out here, we know there's snakes, and she just can't survive on her own," said Ziehl.
They are hoping the public keeps and eye out for Bella, easily identifiable by her shaved back where she had surgery. She is also missing a tail.
"We're hopeful, but we're also logical, knowing the things that are out here that could happen to her," said Susan Shaw. "She could possibly get hit by a car again, and so we're very worried."
Shaw has been Bella's foster mom for less then two weeks, and tonight, she's concerned for her precious pooch.
"We just gotta get her back. We love her!"
Bella was last seen around W. International Speedway Blvd., near Highridge Estates. If you have information about Bella's whereabouts, you can call or text 386-366-3820.
