Shinola ad in 'Vogue' magazine shines spotlight on Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

A five-page spread featured in the March issue of "Vogue" magazine shines a spotlight on luxury watchmaker Shinola and its home-base, Detroit.

The ad is in the center of the magazine and calls Detroit, "The city that continues to call the world's bluff." It features some familiar faces and sights, such as the popular Cliff Bells bar and singer Melvin Davis.

"We're really excited to show the community we're in and the people that inspire us, and that's the city of Detroit and we're really proud to be here," says Daniel Caudill, Shinola Creative Director.

Shinola appears to have a greater mission than making luxury watches, leather goods and bikes. They're also determined to shine a positive light on Detroit.

Art educator Tombi Stewart also appears in the ad along with her heartfelt quote:

"Detroit is magical. It's a little bit of everything. It's contemporary. It's vintage. It's artsy. It's rock 'n' roll. Sometimes pretty, sometimes gritty. It's musical. It's uplifting. It's my city and I love it."

"The feedback has been amazing. We're over the moon about how it's been received from, you know, not just locally but internationally," says Caudill.

Shinola has already run ads in "The New York Times" and "The Wall Street Journal" and they say people should watch for more ads to come as they continue to be a bright spot in the Motor City.
