FASTRACK work comes to N, Q, R subway lines

Posted: Updated:

The MTA is shutting down nighttime service at Manhattan stations for the N, Q, and R subway lines so that crews can do "FASTRACK" work in tunnels, stations, and on tracks.

For four straight nights beginning Monday, March 3, and ending Friday morning, March 7, 2014, N, Q, and R trains will not stop at stations in Manhattan.

N trains will run in Queens and Brooklyn only, Q trains are rerouted via the D train 6th Avenue line in Manhattan to and from the 57th Street F station, and R service ends early in Manhattan and Queens.

These are the details, as provided by the MTA:

Travel alternatives:

2. Take the 7 for service between Queens and Manhattan.

3. Make key transfers between trains at Queensboro Plaza 7N, 5 Av/42 St-Bryant Pk 7DFQ, Jay St-MetroTech AFN, and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr 24DN Q.

4. N trains make local R stops between Court St and 59 St, Brooklyn.

NQR trains will operate as follows:

N Two sections (Queens and Brooklyn) as follows: (1) Between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza and (2) between Stillwell Av and the Court St R station.

Q trains rerouted via the D in Manhattan as follows:

Manhattan-bound: After DeKalb Av, Q trains run via the D to 47-50 Sts, then to the 57 St F station, the last stop.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
