VIERA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

A Brevard County woman has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for caging and starving her boyfriend's son.  Sharon Glass, 50, was found guilty of child abuse and child neglect last month.

Investigators say the 12-year-old boy was locked in a bathroom and starved by his father, Michael Marshall.  They said when they found the boy in March 2012, he weighed a mere 40 pounds, and stood 4 feet, 4 inches tall.

"I couldn't make the right decisions for the Marshall children and myself," Glass said, holding back tears.

"I was left with a strong conclusion that Ms. Glass was the one in control.  She was not being abused.  She was the abuser.  The was cold, this was calculated, and this was evil." said Brevard Circuit Judge David Dugan.

Glass was convicted on eight felony counts of child abuse and child neglect.

The victim's father will be sentenced in April.   He agreed to a plea deal in exchange for a possible maximum sentence of 30 years behind bars.
