Watch: Stage Collapses During High School Performance

Posted: Updated:

Cell phone video catches the Anaheim High School stage collapsing during a performance.

Several girls can be seen dancing and stomping their feet to the music in front of a packed audience when the middle of the stage buckles.

The floor gave in Saturday night when about 250 girls from Rosary High School were conducting the Red and Gold annual musical theater challenge.

The collapse sent about 30 to 40 people to the hospital with mostly minor injuries.

According to officials, the cause of the collapse is likely too many students and too much weight on the stage.

Investigators are looking into the school's stage permit to determine if it included a weight restriction or a limit on the number of people who could be on stage.

"They were in the stage, the stage platform came down. It folded right in the middle of it and the girls dropped. All of the ones that were in the front, they dropped about 10 feet into the pit. It was already at the end of the show. They were getting ready to judge the contestants and everything just came to a screeching halt," said father of a student, Lupe Martinez.

Students have participated in the "Red and Gold" musical theater challenge since 1971.

Teams prepare for six weeks to put on choral, dance, drama and other performances.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
