WASHINGTON (AP) — The campaign treasurer for a former D.C. councilmember has been indicted on charges of stealing $115,000 from a campaign account.

A 14-count indictment against Hakim Sutton was unsealed Wednesday. Sutton was the treasurer for Michael Brown, who lost his re-election bid in 2012 after announcing that most of his campaign funds had been stolen.

Brown was later convicted of bribery and is cooperating with federal prosecutors in a probe of corruption in District of Columbia politics.

According to the indictment, Sutton wrote 36 checks to himself from Brown's campaign account and spent some of the money on domestic and international travel.

Attorney J. Wyndal Gordon, who had been representing Sutton, says he hasn't been able to reach him to discuss the charges. Gordon says he doesn't believe Sutton stole anything.
