Ken Fortenberry was just six years old when his father went missing after taking a flight departing from San Francisco. The date was November 8, 1957. William Fortenberry was on a Pan American airliner, along with 43 others headed toward Honolulu. What happened after is what he has been trying to figure out most of his life. It’s one of few unsolved crashes of American aviation history.

The research has piled up over the years. Fortenberry has three predictions to what exactly happened.

“One is an aircraft malfunction, an engine issue. Second is a crew member, sabotaged by a crew member. And third is a possible bomb by one of the passengers," he said.

Pieces of the plane have been found, along with 19 dead bodies.

And now that another plane is missing, he says there’s striking similarities between both disappearances. Both flights took off normally and then vanished.

“First, my heart aches for the families of those that boarded this flight. And I watch it in the news and i feel what they feel, because the hurt that they face, I still face today," Fortenberry said.

His research led him to more questions than answers, but at least that’s questions he didn’t have before. It brings him closer to a man he barely knew, but considers his hero to this day.

“Its been something that’s been with us our entire lives. Growing up without a dad is a huge hole in anyone’s life, and certainly very encouraging on my efforts to find out what happened. I think what I face is what these folks also face, and that’s answers. You have to searched for answers," he said.

Fortenberry says his quest for tracking down the flight will not end anytime soon.
