Gabriella Mansour, 12, of New Jersey, is doing back flips now. But years ago, her family was afraid she might lose one of her legs.

When she was just 4 months old, Gabriella was diagnosed with a rare congenital bone disease where the bone breaks and does not heal. Told the best option was to amputate her leg, Gabriella's parents brought her to Dr. Michael Vitale at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian/Columbia when she was 2. Through a combination of surgeries and medications, Dr. Vitale was able to strengthen Gabriella's bones.

After her leg healed, there was a five-inch difference in the length of her legs. So Dr. Vitale did a growth modulation procedure. Now Gabriella's legs are almost exactly the same length. She's able to jump and even rock climb.

After her medical procedures, Gabriella was able to start dancing at age 3. Today she's on the cheerleading team.

Her family is very grateful they found Dr. Vitale.

This congenital bone disease is so rare it happens just once in 100,000 births each year.

Gabriella is doing so well in fact she dreams of having a career on Broadway when she grows up.

A Point Pleasant resident frustrated with what he sees as slow action on the part of the Borough Council on making the town safer for pedestrians and bicyclists has started a petition urging the council to act. The petition, posted on change.org, said that while the council passed a Complete Streets ordinance last year and commissioned a report, little of substance has been done, Hagemeyer says. The council meets tonight at 7 at the municipal building.

Workers continue making repairs after a New Jersey Transit train derailed on the Montclair-Boonton line. NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder says passengers on that line are facing delays of up to 20 minutes in both directions on Wednesday because the railroad can only use one track. The train derailed between the Bay Street and Walnut Street stations in Montclair on Tuesday afternoon. No one was injury and passengers were safely transferred from the train.
