After the light rail expansion in the South End region, economic development exploded.

The contractors of a booming community in Charlotte were sick of putting up with some ugly brush that had gotten far too high next to their land, so they called Eugene Bradley with the city of Charlotte.

And when workers cleaned up the area, they discovered six unmarked graves belonging to slaves.

It's an unexpected find, in an area full of new properties. But not much can be done until the city locates the land-owner…

The land likely belongs to one of two families. The graves were discovered at the intersection of Youngblood and Remount road. The Yongblood's are one family…

And the Shuman's are the other family that used to own a plantation in this area.

The land-owner could request that the graves be moved.

But people around here think that would be the wrong decision.

We'll keep you updated.
