JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - The Port Authority will gauge ridership on a new weekend ferry service as an alternative for passengers who normally would ride PATH trains between Jersey City and Lower Manhattan.
PATH service between Exchange Place and World Trade Center stations is closed most weekends throughout 2014 while the agency makes repairs and performs upgrades to the rail line.
Weekend ferries will begin sailing between Paulus Hook Terminal and the World Financial Center Terminal starting Saturday and will end on the weekend of May 4. Boats will operate between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.
The fare will be $2.50 one-way, or $5 roundtrip.
Officials will evaluate ridership levels weekly to determine whether the six-week pilot program should be extended.
