Eugene Blackmon was shot and killed in Charlotte on August 28, 2007. It happed on Dunbrook Lane in a pathway behind a house. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His seven year old son never got a chance to meet his father. Eugene Blackmon, Jr. says he misses the man he never met.

“A bad guy shot him,” Blackmon, Jr. said.

The CMPD Cold Case Unit says Blackmon was hanging out with friends in a house that night before the shooting occurred.

James Zopp, a retired FBI agent, describes the scene before the incident happened.

“There’s a path that cuts through a wooded area, and leads over to Dunbrook Lane, and that was a path where Mr. Blackmon would have taken as he was heading home,” Zopp said.

Witnesses say they heard several gunshots. Blackmon’s sister, Makiba, remembers how it felt shen she got the news.

“Like a sharp arrow through my heart. It's a hurtful feeling even today,” she said.

His mother Claudette says nothing can bring her son back.

“It’s something I’ve been living with every day and trying to go on,” she said.

All his family really wants is answers. If you have any information on what happened, call the CMPD Cold Case Hotline at 704-336-2358.
