Jersey Mikes ‘Day Of Giving’ Helps Muscular Dystrophy

Posted: Updated:
Hamilton, New Jersey (MY9NJ) - Yesterday, every Jersey Mikes sub shop donated 100% of their sales to a charity of their choice. In Hamilton, New Jersey, all the proceeds went to Ryan’s Quest to help children with muscular dystrophy.

Dave Schultz is the founder of Ryan’s Quest and father to young Ryan who lives every day with the disorder.

“We became involved with Jersey Mikes about 4 to 5 years ago just from coming into the restaurant. The owners got to know my family and they got to learn about our charity and then when they started the ‘day of giving’ here they asked us if we would be interested and obviously we said yes and we were honored. So they’ve been benefiting our charity for about four years now on the ‘day of giving’,” he said.

Schultz went on to explain where the money raised will go and how it will help those in need.

“What the charity is for is to benefit research for duchenne muscular dystrophy. Duchenne is a fatal form of muscular dystrophy and generally boys between the ages of 8 and 12 lose the ability to walk and generally they survive into the early twenties, so it’s a devastating disorder. My son Ryan turned 8 this year so it’s a tough year. We’re a small local charity, we’ve probably been able to fund about $1.3 million into research for duchenne so it’s very impressive and that’s all from the community involvement from stores like Jersey Mikes, from my co-workers and friends and just doing these local events generating awareness for the disease and in turn donations,” he said.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
