Maryland Man Indicted On Aggravated Assault Charge

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -

Prosecutors say a Maryland man was indicted today for the physical assault on a woman in an Atlantic City hotel/casino elevator.

According to authorities, on February 15, 2014 at 2:52 a.m., Atlantic City police responded to an altercation between Raymell M. Rice, 27, and Janay Palmer, 26, both of Maryland.

Police charged both Rice and Palmer with simple assault, a disorderly persons offense.

This afternoon in court, the Atlantic County Grand Jury indicated Rice on one count of aggravated assault.

An aggravated assault charge is considered a 3rd degree offense, and carries a potential of 3-5 years in prison.
