MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Monday, March 31 is the last day to sign up for health insurance without penalty and MNsure signup events are taking place all over the state to boost enrollment numbers.

So far, more than 152,000 people in Minnesota have signed up for health insurance, and officials with MNsure say everything is running smoothly at their call centers and website.

MNsure is not releasing figures of how many of the 400,000 previously uninsured Minnesotans have enrolled.

The MNsure call center is in full-force in St. Paul -- all hands are on deck today, about 150 employees are taking enrollers' calls.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

DEADLINE

The deadline is tonight at midnight.

AVERAGE WAIT: 18 MINUTES

With the rush to enroll, wait times are increasing, and they've received over 9,600 incoming calls -- nearly double the amount received on Dec. 31, 2013. MNsure officials said the average wait time is currently about 18 minutes.

Minnesotans that are not able to get through or having difficulty enrolling online, are urged to fill out the MNsure Enrollment Attempt Form, found on the MNsure.org homepage. A MNsure representative will contact them at a later date to complete enrollment.

IF YOU MISS THE DEADLINE

If you miss Monday's deadline, you can only purchase coverage for 2014 if you have a qualifying life event such as a job change, or if you qualify for Medicaid and MinnesotaCare.

If you don't have health insurance and don't sign up for MNsure, you will face a tax of $95 or 1 percent of your annual income.

The next open enrollment is Nov. 15.

SPECIAL ENROLLMENT

You can buy coverage outside of open enrollment during "special enrollment periods" that occur after a "qualifying life event," like getting married or divorced, having a new baby, losing coverage through your job, or moving to a new state.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL COVERAGE

"Minimum essential coverage" means:

      - Government-program coverage like Medicare, Medicaid/Medical Assistance, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), veteran's coverage and TRICARE

      - Employer-sponsored coverage or individually purchased coverage someone already has

-It does not include plans that have limited benefits, like vision or dental plans, disability policies, or worker's compensation plans.

-In 2015, beginning in 2015, high risk pool coverage and certain self-insured student plans will no longer qualify as "minimum essential coverage."

There's a big misconception about food vendors at the Minnesota State Fair. Many people think you can set up a booth, work 12 days and make a pile of cash. But it's not that easy. Aside from a lot of hard work, it also takes some luck.
