Man's stolen car found, brought home then towed again by police within minutes

DETROIT (WJBK) - Arthur Williams was thrilled when he learned Wednesday his stolen car was finally found and available for pickup at an impound lot.

He went to pick it up and had to pay more than one thousand dollars to get it out of the lot.

He watched and recorded as the crew came to his house to drop the vehicle off in his driveway, saying he has been recording everything for court uses.

But, in an unfortunate turn of events, Williams was without a car again just minutes later. His car went missing again while he was away picking up his kids.

"I noticed the same tow truck driver that actually delivered the car with my neighbors come back and pick up the exact same car - 15 minutes later," says neighbor Hope Buckman.

"I don't know why they took my car. I paid $1,100 to get my car out again and then ya'll take my car away," says Williams.

Williams says the crew made a mess of his yard, too, when they towed his car away. He pulled out his camera again and took video in which you can see muddy tire tracks and stray pieces of wood that were apparently ripped off when they broke into a fence to access the vehicle.

Williams went to the police, who said it was towed because it was parked in the driveway of an abandoned house.

Moreso, Williams can see his car in the impound lot and says it looks nothing like it did when he got it back. The hood and bumper is now mysteriously smashed.

FOX 2's Andrea Isom spoke with the impound lot, which confirmed Williams did pay to get his car. They also say police confirmed his car for release.

Detroit police say they are trying to verify Williams' report in the system. Once they do they, they say they are happy to work with him if his car was towed from his yard when it should not have been.
